Workflows are created in the usual manner with the KNIME Desktop capabilities. Using an additional node the data is made available as a data source and can now be used in report templates, which are created using the eclipse open-source reporting extension, BIRT. The tool enables you design report templates containing tables, charts, labels, images, and many other components.

The elements are dragged from a palette view onto the report template page. Each of the components can be configured to customize its appearance. A preview allows you to inspect the final report with a subset of the data from the workflow.

Once the template is completed it can be saved and run. The user can select between 7 export formats. The available formats are: Web Viewer, HTML, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe PDF, and Postscript.
