Retrospective Analysis of Euro 2024 with KNIME by Dennis Ganzaroli

Was Spain's win of Euro 2024 justified?

Let’s evaluate the top teams of Euro 2024 using KNIME and linear regression to see how this approach outperforms FIFA rankings and provides a more accurate method for rating soccer teams.

6:45 PM - 7:15 PM :  Is women’s soccer different from men’s soccer? By Anh NQ

Soccer often sparks debates about differences between men’s and women’s matches. While men's soccer has historically garnered more attention, women's soccer is gaining prominence, raising questions about the nature of these differences.

Using machine learning modelling techniques, we analysed matches from the 2022 Men’s and 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cups to discern if and how men’s and women’s soccer differ. Feature importance analysis highlighted ball recoveries, pass length, and fouls as key differentiators, suggesting that gender-based perceptions may not align with actual gameplay differences. The study’s workflows and data are available on the KNIME Community Hub.
